The
African Mangrove
Network (AMN), is a network of African NGOs and CBOs working in
the
field of sustainable management of marine and/or coastal ecosystems. Following
the example of the international community, which, for decades now has developed
awareness of environmental issues, these African NGOs, are recongised as
carrying the flag at international levels as harbingers in the fight to
protect
ecological balance. The AMN's participatory planning work has been undertaken
under the Project "Capacity building workshop for African NGOs and CBOs for
Sustainable Management of Mangrove Forests", funded by Netherlands Committee
for IUCN and implemented by AMN's provisional co-ordination team. Themain
aim of AMN is to promote the sustainable management of mangrove forests by
rehabilitating damaged ecosystems, protecting their species and developing
management plans.
The mission of
Conservation
Force is the conservation
of
wildlife and the natural world. The purpose is to establish and further
conservation of wildlife and wild places. Objectives:
-
Conservation
of wildlife and wild places.
-
To expand
sustainable use for its indispensable value to mankind and the natural world.
-
To insure the
continued contribution and positive perception of the hunting and angling
conservation community.
-
To facilitate
greater collaboration, cooperation and coordination within the hunting and
angling conservation community.
-
To add exponentially
to the bio-political and conservation capacity of the hunting and angling
conservation community.
The
Congo Basin
Forest Partnership (CBFP) is an association of 29 governmental and
nongovernmental organizations that works to improve
communication and coordination among its member organizations vis-à-vis
their projects, programs, and policies to promote sustainable management
of Congo Basin Forest ecosystems and wildlife and improve the lives of people
living in the region. CBFP does not itself implement or fund programs and
it has no
secretariat or staff. Instead, it provides a service to
donors and implementing agencies working in the region by operating as an
information clearinghouse, a mechanism for promoting coordination of programs
across multiple donors and implementing agencies, and a forum for dialogue.
CBFP aims to increase awareness of the programs being funded and implemented
by its member organizations, enhance the efficiency of these programs and
relevant coordination processes, and identify and eliminate gaps and overlaps
in programs and funding. In so doing, the Partnership hopes to encourage
potential donors to engage in the Congo Basin region and the crucial work
of protecting its globally important endowments of wildlife and biological
diversity, ensuring good governance, and raising the living standards of
its people.
The
'GORILLA'
Association (Association Francaise Pour La Protection des Gorilles
et Autres Primates) was founded in January 1986 by Fabrice Martinez on the
passing away of Diane Fossey. The Association reflects
the continuation of this great lady's work
and
participates as directly as possible in the protection of gorillas and other
large apes. This is a non-profit international association in accordance
to the 1901 Law. The choice for the gorilla is linked to the urgency of its
situation. The dangers encountered by the specie is due to the reduction
of its habitat (especially for the mountain gorillas of Rwanda), the poaching
which, after the killing of one individual affects the whole group, and
subsequently endangers the whole family group. In fact the gorillas have
a complex social organization and the group inter-dependence is very
important.

The
Pan African
Sanctuary Alliance, or PASA, is an
alliance of
sixteen primate sanctuaries from all over Africa. Due to
the rapid influx of orphan animals from increased logging, habitat destruction
and commercial development of the bush-meat trade, and lack of awareness
in primate range countries, sanctuaries have emerged on an ad-hoc basis resulting
in crisis management. This has made it difficult for long-term planning and
adequate collaboration between sanctuaries and primate experts. There is
a very evident need for general guidelines for the establishment of authorities,
site location, long term sustainability management practices, primate management
and health issues.
Pan African
Sanctuary Alliance (PASA) is designed to bring these sanctuaries
together.
