The
South African
National Bird Of Prey Centre is committed to the conservation of
raptors in South Africa by the implementation of research, captive breeding,
rehabilitation, and educational programs based on proven scientific conservation
principles. The
South
African
National Bird of Prey Centre is a registered non profit
organisation dedicated to the conservation of not only South African raptors
but
all raptors world wide. With birds of prey being

The programme goal of
SADC Regional Programme
for Rhino Conservation : Southern
African rhino taxa maintained in viable and well
distributed metapopulations as flagship species for biodiversity conservation
within the SADC region.
Programme objective: A pragmatic regional rhino
strategy implemented within the SADC region following the acquisition of
sound information on, firstly, the constraints and opportunities for rhino
conservation within each range state and secondly, the constraints and
opportunities for rhino metapopulation management at the regional level.
Conditionalities : Five conditions have been agreed upon as necessary to
be met by projects requiring support from the SADC Rhino Conservation
Programme, namely:
-
Projects must
be of a SADC regional nature or importance;
-
Projects must
be limited to subspeciesCeratotherium simum simum, Diceros bicornis minor,
Diceros bicornis bicornis ;
-
Fundamental
rhino management issues such as land use economics, community involvement,
etc. must be taken into account;
-
Both public
and private rhino conservation projects will be considered, and
-
Implementation
must make use of existing institutions and linkages.
Hyaena Specialist Group (IUCN Species Survival
Commission Hyaenidae Specialist Group). The
Hyaena Specialist
Group consists of
a
small body of devoted specialists concerned about research and conservation
of a small but ecologically important animal family. All members are volunteers.
The Group does not manage projects, but, in
their
individual capacities, members are involved in the development and implementation
of conservation programmes and projects. It is one of over 100 similar groups
of scientists and other specialists forming part of the Species Survival
Commission of the World Conservation Union (IUCN). The Status Survey and
Conservation Action Plan for Hyaenas provides basic information on hyaenas
and the conservation issues they face. The
Hyaena Specialist
Group aims:
-
To promote the
conservation of Hyaenas worldwide through integrated research to develop
sound conservation strategies
-
Through education
to change people's attitudes towards these much maligned and often unnecessarily
persecuted animals
